Arsenal could be handed significant triple boost ahead of derby clash with Tottenham

It doesn’t get bigger than the North London derby, and it’s fair to say that the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are getting pretty excited. The Gunners have been on a good run of form, and games between the two sides are always competitive.

Fortunately, ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger has been handed a rather significant potential boost according to the Evening Standard. They’re reporting that the trio of Nacho Monreal, Petr Cech and Danny Welbeck could all be available for the game.

Monreal is expected to return to training shortly, whilst the club are also said to be confident about the status of both Cech and Welbeck – offering Wenger hope that the trio could well be fit to feature against the Lilywhites.

Of course, Arsenal need all the strength that they can muster against Tottenham, who themselves have been on a good run of form. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have enjoyed a decent few weeks, with a dominant win over Man Utd coming at the end of January, and so it won’t be easy for the Gunners.

That being said, the return of Cech and Monreal, in particular, would come as a massive boost, whilst the presence of Welbeck potentially on the bench will give Wenger another option in the attack.

The French manager won’t want to risk any of them if they aren’t 100%, but with a few days to go until the big game, there is more than enough time for him to make a decision.

Landlord’s Verdict

Petr Cech’s form has been mixed this season, but there is no doubting that he will play if he’s fit. On his day, he’s still a top keeper, and so Arsenal will have a far higher chance of winning if he is available.

Nacho Monreal, likewise, has been a regular this season, providing expert defending for an otherwise relatively inconsistent back-line.

Welbeck has had injury problems this term, as has become par for the course, and he likely may not have started the game, but if he’s available from the bench he could pose a real threat for the Gunners.

Good news all round for Wenger.
