Arsenal’s posses an incredible team, and the attack at the Emirates is particularly brilliant. In recent times, they’ve lacked the characteristic lethality that had previously made them so deadly going forward. However, over the last year or two, that has all changed. The Gunners have brought in some incredible players, and combined with the stars already in the side, they’ve been lethal going forward.
Of course, we’re talking about the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, combined with the likes of Alex Iwobi, Aaron Ramsey and, of course, Mesut Ozil.
That’s enough talent to satisfy even the most hungry of offensive football fans, but could their forward line get even better? There is still scope for the Arsenal attack to grow ever stronger, and that’s exactly what the club apparently want to do.
According to the Times, Arsenal are in the hunt for winger Nicolas Pepe, who has enjoyed a tremendous season going forward for Lille this term.
He’s undeniably a fantastic player, and at Arsenal, he’d be right at home in a squad full of talent and quality. In truth, if the Gunners were able to land him, we could be looking at England’s best attack.
After all, as mentioned, he’s enjoyed a fantastic season this year. He’s had a direct hand in 13 league goals, coming from 8 goals and 5 assists, and that says all you need to know. He’s deadly going forward, and he’s got far more than just one string to his bow. What’s makes this even more impressive is the fact that he’s achieved so much in such a short amount of time. He’s only played 13 games, and so he’s been involved, on average, in 1 goal every time he’s stepped onto the field.
In terms of his core attributes, Pepe is a quick, rampaging winger with bags of technical ability. Naturally, given his goalscoring record, he’s a fine finisher, but he’s just as capable passing the ball and moving it on to one of his brilliant teammates. With such quick feet, he’s good at driving towards goal and moving past players, and that is something Arsenal lack at times.
What’s more, at just 23-years-old, Pepe is only getting better at the moment, and so Arsenal wouldn’t just be investing in talent for the present – they’d be looking at talent for the future, too. Unai Emery is clearly building for the future at the Emirates, and a move for someone like Pepe would practically guarantee a better chance at success in the long-term.
