Arsenal may have already made a huge mistake when it comes down to recruitment with Aaron Ramsey’s imminent departure and the Gunners simply cannot afford to make another one.
And, it appears Unai Emery’s side may have learnt a lesson from that debacle as they look to consider their options regarding another one of their home-grown talents.
What’s the News?
Arsenal are considering whether to offer Danny Welbeck a new contract to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium beyond the end of the season, according to The Mirror.
The England international’s current deal expires in a few months, which has led to interest from West Ham United, Everton and Newcastle United.
Offering Welbeck a new contract could actually be considered a good piece of business for Arsenal to conduct and something that probably should have happened a while back.
After the debacle that surrounded the situation following Ramsey and his deal, the Gunners can probably count themselves lucky the experienced international is yet to have been handed an offer from someone else.
Despite all his injury troubles, there is no doubt that the 28-year-old can still offer plenty to the Emirates Stadium outfit when fit and available.
Emery is thought to like Welbeck and values the versatility that he offers in the side, as he can play in any position in the final third and his absence has arguably been missed at times.
He is a proven goalscorer, however, he also has the ability to create chances out of nothing and provide his team with a spark that allows them to get forward and take control of games. He is more than capable of making an impact from the substitutes bench as well, which is a lot easier said than done for a number of footballers.
Arsenal fans, do you think the club should look to offer Welbeck a new deal? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
