Arsenal could have a problem in their pursuit of £27m-rated multi-time league winner – report

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Arsene Wenger to bring in a few new faces in January. It has been a mixed season for the Gunners so far, but a strong second-half of the season could see them move up the table as the campaign continues, and so a few new signings could be just what they need.

However, it doesn’t appear as though they will have a clear path to one of their targets in January. According to the Sun, Arsenal are preparing a £25 million move for Luiz, and whilst a deal certainly isn’t out of the question, the Brazilian and Antonio Conte are said to have made up – with the manager keen to reintegrate the defender back into his squad. As a result, it seems unlikely that this deal will be easy.

He’s rated at £27 million by Transfer Markt, and so the £25 million that the Gunners are said to be ready to offer would be below his market value. In light of the suggestion from the Sun that Luiz and Conte are back on the same page, that could make this deal a tough one to complete for the Gunners.

Luiz has, of course, not featured in recent weeks. He’s injured at present, but prior to that, the Brazilian was replaced in the squad by Andreas Christensen, with the Danish defender impressing after being given a chance by Antonio Conte. Luiz’s lack of game time has brought his future into question, but it appears as though Antonio Conte is ready to resolve any problems.

Arsenal, then, may be forced to look elsewhere.

Landlord’s Verdict

Luiz would have been a good signing for Arsenal. He’s won leagues across Europe, and so he could provide that experienced edge that they need.

However, a move for a London rival’s player was always going to be difficult, and so Wenger shouldn’t rely on this deal coming to fruition – even if Luiz is made available in January.
