The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Jose Mourinho to sign Alvaro Morata this summer, though it would appear as though Arsene Wenger and Arsenal could have a say in the matter…
According to Don Balon, Morata’s seemingly inevitable Real Madrid departure this summer could be put on hold – with the future of Karim Benzema also up in the air. Don Balon are reporting that Arsenal, who have been long-term admirers of Benzema, could go back in for the Frenchman this summer – and if that is the case and Benzema is sold – Morata will not be allowed to leave the club as planned at the end of the season.
Man Utd have, of course, been linked with Morata in recent weeks.
Though there is no mention of an impending move from Arsenal, their long-held interest would certainly hint that the Gunners could be keen this summer, and given Benzema’s poor form in recent weeks, our landlord thinks that Los Blancos may be more keen on selling him over Morata.
From Man Utd’s perspective, though, they will certainly be hoping that Arsenal stay away. With Wayne Rooney in poor form and Zlatan Ibrahimovic unlikely to sign on for another year, the signing of a new forward this summer is absolutely essential. Morata would fit the bill, with his deadly finish this season eerily reminiscent of Ibrahimovic.
Morata has bagged 15 goals in La Liga, despite making just 14 starts.
