The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t sure about this proposed move…
With so much scrutiny being placed upon the Arsenal futures of both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil – this is not the response that the Gunners in the Transfer Tavern were expecting from their side.
According to the Sun, in response to Mourinho’s proposed pursuit of Mesut Ozil – Arsenal could, in turn, look to move for Man Utd winger Jesse Lingard, with the temptation of a £120,000 per week offer for the Englishman.
The Sun are suggesting that Wenger would have no issue handing such a big wage packet to the 23-year-old, with life without Ozil and Sanchez quickly becoming a very real possibility.
These reports have drawn the ire of the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, many of whom think that going from Ozil to Lingard would be a huge downgrade for the Gunners.
Lingard has been somewhat disappointing this season, and despite being a regular for Mourinho earlier in the season – he has recently lost his place to the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the Man Utd attack.
The English winger has made 6 Premier League starts so far this season, and has picked up just 1 assist in the process. Conversely, Ozil has played a starring role for Arsenal this season, scoring 5 times and assisting twice in 13 Premier League starts.
The Arsenal fans in the Tavern think that whilst a move for Lingard might make sense in the context of this transfer saga, the reality is that he is not good enough to start for Man Utd – and so he likely would not be good enough for Arsenal either.
Our landlord thinks that Wenger simply needs to cough up the cash and tie both Sanchez and Ozil down to new long-term deals at the club.
