Arsenal fans would be forgiven if they were out on Thursday night for a little longer than they should have been following the club’s progression in the Europa League and Friday’s draw will be eagerly awaited for those at the Emirates Stadium.
However, the news that they could potentially lose one of their talented players in the near future to interest abroad may not have helped with any potential headaches.
What’s the News?
According to a report by The Sun, Bukayo Saka has emerged as a target for Bundesliga clubs as German scouts have been impressed with his performances this season.
The 17-year-old would not be allowed to sign a new contract with Arsenal until he turns 18 in September, which could see the unnamed German outfits look to make a move.
The 17-year-old could thrive under Unai Emery as he is far from the finished product, but has shown plenty of potential in his appearances with the first-team.
Saka is an extremely talented winger and has drawn plenty of praise, with Per Mertesacker believing that he has a great future at Arsenal, whilst Michael Owen made a comparison to a certain Cristiano Ronaldo after witnessing the youngster in action.
He has not gone unnoticed by England either, with him being named in England’s Under-19 squad for the matches against the Czech Republic, Greece and Denmark later this month.
A left-sided winger, who can also play as a left-back, Saka has plenty of power and strength that make him an exciting prospect off the ball, whilst he has the ability to make something happen when on the ball with his directness, his final ball and the ability to beat his man.
And, the left-back may have been a position that Arsenal looked to utilise him in in the future as it appears to have become a problem area for Emery’s side this season as both Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac have cast doubts.
However, there will be real concerns that a move to the Bundesliga could appeal to Saka, as the likes of Jordan Sancho have shown what a switch can do for a youngster’s career.
Arsenal fans, what do you make of the news that Saka is being targeted by Bundesliga clubs? Should Emery look to do all he can to convince him to stay? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
