The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their side’s spending spree will continue this summer. The Gunners splashed out to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the Emirates in January, whilst Henrikh Mkhitaryan also moved to the club from Man Utd.
Indeed, there certainly appears to be a willingness from Arsenal to invest as they look to turn the team around, and that’s certainly very exciting for the club.
Many of their summer targets remain under wraps for now, but according to the Mirror, one player that they could move for is Man Utd defender Luke Shaw.
Shaw is reportedly in line for a new deal at Old Trafford, but Man Utd are yet to make their move – and so according to the Mirror, both Arsenal and Chelsea have been alerted. Indeed, it is said that Arsenal may look to move for the Englishman, given that they’ll likely be in the market for a replacement for Nacho Monreal this summer.
According to Transfer Markt, Shaw is currently valued at £13.5 million.
At 32-years-old, Monreal isn’t likely to be a long-term option for the Gunners, and so Shaw, who is still just 22-years-old, would certainly fit the bill.
He’s had a tough time of it since moving to Old Trafford. With a number of injury problems combined with a lack of faith in the player from Jose Mourinho, his career has stalled in the last 18 months. However, since the turn of the year the Englishman really made a comeback, hence Man Utd’s desire to reward him with a new deal.
That said, if they continue to move slowly, an opening could occur for the likes of Arsenal, who could look to pounce.
Shaw has looked very good whenever he has played this year, even if Jose Mourinho is hesitant to give him a continued run in the first team.
He looks to be finally past the worst of his problems, and his form has suggested that he’s on his way to being at his best.
In truth, a prolonged Man Utd stay is the most likely option, but given how fractious the relationship is between Mourinho and Shaw, anything could happen. Until that deal is signed, his future remains uncertain.
