Arsenal supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side narrowly beat Newcastle United 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, a result which keeps them a point behind Liverpool in the fourth place in the Premier League table.
Arsene Wenger’s men went into their clash with the Magpies off the back of a disappointing 0-0 draw away at West Ham on Wednesday night, and Rafa Benitez’s visitors threatened to frustrate the Gunners as well on a nervy afternoon at the Emirates. However, Mesut Ozil’s wonderful strike midway through the first half proved to be enough to seal all three points for the North London outfit, which temporarily moved them into the top four only for Liverpool to reclaim fourth place after beating Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday.
Subsequently, there have been many satisfied Gunners in the Tavern in recent days, and they are likely to be intrigued and perhaps encouraged by a recent report from Ladbrokes, which suggests that a new deal for Ozil is ‘more likely than ever’.
The Germany international’s future has been subject of speculation in recent times given that his contract is up at the end of the current campaign, and he has as of yet agreed an extension with the club.
However, odds on Ozil staying at the Emirates have shortened significantly in recent times with the 29-year-old now 1/4 to remain at Arsenal beyond the January window, and 7/4 beyond the summer market.
And with a new deal ‘more likely than ever’, it looks as if the midfield maestro could well be signing a contract at Arsenal after all.
Landlord’s verdict: Mesut Ozil once again showed everyone what he can do with a wonderful finish in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday, yet his future at the Emirates Stadium remains unresolved.
The German’s contract expires at the end of the season and as of yet no extension has been agreed, however recent reports from Ladbrokes suggest that a new deal could well be in the offing, and that’s because the 29-year-old is now 1/4 to stay at the club beyond January, and 7/4 beyond the summer.
In fact, a new deal is rated as ‘more likely than ever’ by the bookmaker, in news which is sure to delight our resident Gunners fans ahead of what could be a very interesting January transfer window at the North London giants.
