There are some disappointed faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Express have a claim Arsenal fans will not enjoy.
The publication have claimed that Schalke’s Julian Draxler – who is of course one of the top targets for the Gunners – will not be joining the club in the summer after his agent played down talk of a move.
Arsene Wenger has made no secret of his admiration for the player and as one of our punters notes over a beer and burger combo, the fact that Wenger nearly moved for the player in the January transfer window speaks volumes.
Despite this, it seems that the Gunners are set to miss out on yet another player because they moved too slowly.
Draxler’s agent claimed it would be ‘almost impossible’ to see Draxler leave Schalke this summer, and those sentiments were echoed by the club’s chairman, Clemens Torries, who noted: “If nothing extraordinary happens, Julian will stay with us.
“I am convinced that he will play even longer than this one next season at Schalke. Then we will see.”
Is it simply a case that Wenger and the Arsenal board should have pushed harder to get this deal across the line in January? Have they now missed out for good? Let us know your thoughts below.
