Arsenal end interest in long-term striking target

KokorinArsenal fans by the Transfer Tavern smoking area are disappointed to hear the chances of a new striker arriving at the Emirates Stadium this month are extremely low, as the Gunners have ended their interest in a long-term target.

Goal states Arsenal are no longer pursuing the signature of Dynamo Moscow forward Aleksander Kokorin, who has been touted with a move to the Premier League leaders since the summer’s transfer window.

The 24-year-old is expected to leave the Russian side this month but Dynamo’s former sporting director Konstantin Sarsania confirmed the Gunners were interested in Kokorin’s signature but the situation has changed.

“I don’t know where Kokorin will continue his career. There was interest on the part of Arsenal, but now there is not.”

Arsenal currently have Olivier Giroud leading the line admirably, with just Romelu Lukaku as the only Premier League player with more goals in all competitions, whilst Theo Walcott presents an alternative option.

Danny Welbeck, yet to feature this season, has also returned to training and is nearing a long-awaited return to the Arsenal side- which could hand the Gunners a significant boost in the title race.

However, our regulars believe that a striker is needed anyway as they don’t fancy their chances should anything happen to Giroud; who has scored 18 goals so far this season.
