Arsenal eyeing £24m La Liga forward as Jamie Vardy alternative

Slimani.jpgArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been debating whether this proposed signing is a good move, after hearing that their side has targeted a new striker just in case one deal falls through.

The Sun states Arsene Wenger’s side have rivalled Premier League champions Leicester City for the services of Algerian forward Islam Slimani, as at alternative for current target Jamie Vardy.

Vardy went to the European Championships with England without informing Arsenal of his decision on a proposed transfer and there is a danger that the 24-goal striker will snub a move to the Emirates Stadium, in favour of remaining with English champions Leicester City.

Arsenal are now eyeing other targets, as they look for support to current striker Olivier Giroud, and Slimani is on their wish-list. Leicester have also eyed the African hitman but saw a £20m bid rejected by Sporting Lisbon.

Both Arsenal and Leicester can offer Champions League football to the experienced forward, so our landlord feels it will come down to who offers him more regularly playing opportunities.

Arsenal fans, is Slimani a decent alternative to Vardy? Let us know in the comments below!
