Arsenal managed to get the better of Huddersfield Town yesterday but they didn’t exactly look dominant, as they only ended up winning by a one-goal margin.
The Gunners will be desperate to make inroads in the race for a top four spot as Manchester United continue to pick up points, while Chelsea remain above Unai Emery’s side, despite their loss at the Etihad earlier on today.
Interestingly, it appears as if Emery is lining up a possible summer swoop, as according to The Express, Arsenal are interested in signing Bundesliga star Jean-Philippe Gbamin.
It’s safe to say that Arsenal have struggled at times in defensive areas this season, so moving in for the Ivory Coast international makes perfect sense at this moment in time.
Indeed, it’s believed that the Arsenal boss will go back in for Gbamin when the summer window opens, but his current club Mainz want £40 million for the German with Emery set to have a £45 million budget for the summer.
However, the fee may be lowered if Gbamin wants out at the end of the current campaign.
Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who is valued at £27 million (by Transfermarkt), has established himself as one of the best defenders in the German Bundesliga this season, with a move to the Premier League being just reward.
The Gunners have been poor defensively in the current campaign, so bringing in a defender in the summer transfer window makes perfect sense.
