Eyebrows are being raised in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Mail have claimed that Arsenal are ready to hand a trial to young Nigerian international Godfrey Oboabona.
You could be forgiven for asking exactly who that is as it seems few in the tavern know that the defender was a crucial part of Nigeria’s fairly ecent success in the African Cup of Nations and has now won a total of 18 caps for the Super Eagles.
At only 22-years-old the defender has plenty of time to develop and grow into the game and already looks quite an exciting prospect to watch. Currently playing his trade for the Sunshine Stars in his homeland, he is rated at a lowly £1 million and it would hardly break the bank for Arsene Wenger to sign him.
Since the player claimed that: “Arsenal are my favourite club from childhood. It is the club I want to play for. I have offers from the top five leagues in the world,” it seems that the Gunners are among the front runners to sign the player.
Wenger is looking to add to his back line after becoming disillusioned with his current squad and feels that the Nigerian is certainly worth a look at.
Should Wenger risk a move for the lesser-known Oboabona? Rate this rumour below.
