Arsenal eye up £12m Liverpool ace

skrtel.jpgNews emerging in the Football Transfer Tavern that Arsenal could move for unsettled Liverpool centre back Martin Skrtel when the transfer window opens has taken most punters by surprise.

According to the Express, the Gunners are looking to revitalise their tired back line with a bid for the Slovakian international after a disappointing season from club captain Thomas Vermaelen while right back Bacary Sagna, whose contract runs out next summer, continues to be linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

Skrtel who was dropped by Liverpool during the latter part of the 2012/13 campaign yesterday completed the signing of Manchester City defender Kolo Toure on a free transfer and manager Brendan Rodgers is seeking fresh options after the retirement of club legend Jamie Carragher earlier this month.

The 28-year-old defender recently admitted that he may move on this summer and this seems to have attracted the attention of Arsene Wenger who has also been tracking Swansea City captain Ashley Williams.

Skrtel could be available for around £12 million, a transfer fee that would suit the prudent Wenger.
