Arsenal fans are looking up from their pints here at the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by Sport Witness that the club are closing in on a double swoop for Lyon’s Maxime Gonalons and Clément Grenier.
Arsene Wenger has been looking to add to his squad in a major way this summer and has already been heavily linked to Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic and about every goalkeeper on the planet who has shown any kind of promise over the last couple of seasons.
Now it seems that a significant portion of his rumoured £70 million transfer kitty will go on luring the two young players from Lyon. Both could be obtained for around 20 million euros and Wenger is more than happy to pay this fee for both stars.
Whilst Lyon are not exactly happy at the prospect of two of their best young players leaving the club, their financial state means that a big offer for both simply could not be turned down, meaning that Wenger is confident that he can land the pair.
Scouts have been present this season on several occasions to watch the two players and Wenger has been impressed both with reports he has received and what he has witnessed first hand. Gonalons is currently skippering the side and with three years left on his deal at the Stade Gerland, he will be harder to land than Grenier whose current deal expires in 2014 and thus will soon be free to negotiate with other clubs.
Will the Gunners sign the pair, or perhaps just Gonalons? Let us know your thoughts below.
