Arsenal eyeing second bid to land defender from Premier League rivals

ChilwellArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern expected a quiet week that they could relax in to close the transfer window, with no business expected to be completed, but they’ve reached for the spirits now after hearing transfers could be on.

The Telegraph states Arsenal are ready to make a second-bid for Leicester City’s teenage full-back Ben Chilwell, after seeing a £3.5m swoop rejected by the Foxes in the summer.

Chilwell, an England U20 international, is a long-term target for the Gunners and the Premier league leaders have lodged an enquiry to Leicester this week, the side that they lead in the title charge on goal difference.

Despite only three first-team appearances for Leicester, 19-year-old Chilwell is highly-rated and Arsenal believe he is the perfect long-term replacement for Nacho Monreal- and his arrival could secure the flanks of the Gunners defence for the next decade, with Hector Bellerin on the other side.

Our landlord believes Chilwell’s exit from Leicester is inevitable, and touts Arsenal as the most likely destination, but he’s wondering what this means for forgotten man Kieran Gibbs.

Arsenal fans, is Chilwell a better long-term option than Kieran Gibbs? Let us know in the comments below!
