Arsenal face battle to land La Liga ace

rami.jpgThere is more bad news for Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it has been claimed by Metro that one of their top targets may well turn them down for a move to Russia instead.

The Gunners have been tracking Valencia’s Adil Rami for some time now and know that the 27-year-old would be a brilliant addition to Wenger’s back line. Now however it has been claimed that mega-rich Anzhi Makhachkala are looking to effectively gazump the North London side and land the defender themselves.

Rami has been brilliant in La Liga this season and no one would try to claim otherwise. Despite his season and indeed time at the Mestalla, the defender is open to a move and it had been thought that Arsenal would be his preferred destination. Now however, with the Russian club still looking to replace Chris Samba, they are willing to pay the £13 million it will take to land Rami and the £3 million per year he demands in wages – something Wenger is not too keen on.

Of course Arsenal have been linked to a host of other defensive targets including Ashley Williams and Fernando Amorebieta and may well bow out of this race should the bidding become too excessive.

Is Rami to Arsenal an unrealistic transfer? Rate this rumour below.
