Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hoping that their club’s rich history and consistent run in the Champions League will be enough to fight off interest from West Ham as both clubs chase Celtic’s defender.
According to talkSPORT, Arsene Wenger will face competition from the Hammers as both clubs will go head to head to sign Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk.
Although some drinkers in the Tavern believe the Irons will be no match in comparison to what Arsenal can offer in the transfer window.
Whilst Punters insist a key element that Sam Allardyce can offer and the Gunners can’t, is guaranteed first team football.
It is obvious that van Dijk will step in immediately to cover Arsenal’s injury stricken squad but when players start to returning from injury, the 23-year-old may struggle to get a game, which would be the worst case scenario with his development in mind.
But it is clear there will be a big fight from both London clubs to sign him in January and it is believed Celtic will want at least £7m to allow him to depart from the club.
