Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are pleased to see their side working to secure deals swiftly in the summer market, although they’re concerned competition for this target could see them miss out.
The Daily Express states Arsenal will have to fend-off a host of rivals to land the signature of Inter Milan centre-back Jeison Murillo, who Arsene Wenger has identified as a candidate to improve the Gunners defence.
Despite landing Petr Cech last summer and boasting a back-line full of international stars, Arsenal’s defence was vulnerable last season and consistently shipping goals ultimately meant the Gunners missed out on their first Premier League title since 2004.
Wenger is keen to rectify those issues this summer but it may prove to be more difficult than he would have imagined, as title-winners Leicester City and European hopefuls Stoke City are also showing an interest in Murillo.
Whilst Arsenal’s international pedigree may be more appealing to 24-year-old Murillo, the Colombian international may deem his first-team opportunities more promising elsewhere in the Premier League.
Arsenal’s central-defensive options include Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista, so our landlord thinks Murillo would struggle for game time at the Emirates.
Would Murillo be an upgrade on Arsenal’s current defensive options? Let us know in the comments below!
