Arsenal fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern are getting slightly anxious as to when their first summer signing is to be announced, and unfortunately Jamie Sanderson of Metro does not bring good news.
The club have seen a £6 million bid rejected by Lyon for midfield target Clement Grenier.
The Gunners have seen themselves linked with a host of players, with it being reported that Wenger has a healthy £70 million transfer budget to spend, although a big name deal is yet to be announced.
Grenier was thought to be a long-term target for the Gunners, and had previously admitted himself he was keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal were thought to have offered £6 million and a 25 per cent sell on clause, although Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas is a notoriously tough negotiator, and rejected the bid outright.
Whether a move materialises now depends on whether Grenier looks to force a move away, with it understood Wenger is not willing to up his bid over £6 million and is happy to turn his attention elsewhere.
Elsewhere, the Gunners are looking to wrap up the signing of Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain next week.
