Arsenal fans are wrong: The Unai Emery era can’t afford to have erratic player at the club

Arsenal had an incredibly tough start to the season this year as the Gunners were handed two opening games against Manchester City and Chelsea, two games that they lost.

With the club under new management, it was always going to take time for the Gunners to put together some form but luckily for the Arsenal faithful, it finally looks like Unai Emery has got the players on the same page and have now won nine games in a row.

The Gunners demolished Fulham at the weekend in what was arguably their best performance under the new manager. Thanks to goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Aaron Ramsey the Gunners ran out easy winners and now sit fourth in the table, two points off the top.

Much like the Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil last year, Ramsey’s contract is due to run out next summer and according to recent reports Arsenal have pulled the plug on any new deal and he will now depart either in January or leave on a free next summer.

Following the win over Fulham, one of our writers to delved into to Twitter to find that plenty of Arsenal fans were begging the club to keep the Wales international. Although he scored yesterday, those Arsenal fans are wrong and it’s time for the Gunners cut ties with the midfielder.

During his time with Arsenal, Ramsey’s career can be summed up as incredibly erratic. Amid the club’s terrible performances last season, the Welshman was arguably the best player and easily the only one to play anywhere close to his top level. Furthermore, during the 2013/14 season, Ramsey showcased an incredible run of form where he scored 10 goals to go with nine assists, a run of form he has since struggled to replicate.

Aside from those two seasons, Ramsey has failed to perform consistently and in Emery’s new look Arsenal team, it remains to be seen where he can play. He simply doesn’t have the defensive awareness to play at the base of a 4-2-3-1, especially with the form of Lucas Torreira next to Granit Xhaka. Moreover, Ramsey doesn’t really have the ability to play as a 10 and at the weekend couldn’t make the starting line up with Ozil out.

In a new era with a new manager, Arsenal should be looking to ship out Ramsey and start a new era at the club.
