Arsenal took to Twitter yesterday to mark the 22-year anniversary of signing Patrick Vieira. The talented midfielder had it all and he was one of the main reasons that Arsenal were successful in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Now, though, the fans are all in agreement that they miss a midfielder of his style.

You know you’re talking about a club legend when you’re looking at someone who’s clocked up three Premier League titles and four FA Cups in 406 appearances for a club. Vieira signed for Arsenal in 1996 from AC Miland for a relatively small fee and stayed with The Gunners for nine years before departing for Juventus in 2005. The 42-year-old has had a mightily impressive career but will be remembered for his days at Arsenal.
The Frenchman’s trophy cabinet has had a fair few extensions to it as he’s won the World Cup and European Championships with France as well as picking up 14 domestic honours during his time in Italy and England with Arsenal, Manchester City, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan. What Vieira had, ironically, is exactly what Arsenal seem to be lacking at the moment and a lot fans will be waiting until a Vieira type player comes along again before they begin to believe.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a new Patrick Vieira and really haven’t been the same since the Frenchman left the club way back in 2005.
