Arsenal fans desperate to see Lichtsteiner from the start tonight

Arsenal play their first Europa League match of the season tonight against Vorskla Poltava and they’ll be keen to get a win to put the memories of last season’s semi-final loss against Atletico Madrid to bed. The fans will be expecting Unai Emery to ring the changes and a lot of them are hoping to see Stephan Lichtsteiner today after he faced the media for the Arsenal website.

Lichtsteiner joined Arsenal from Juventus on a free this summer and he was Unai Emery’s first signing at the club. The fans, though, are keen to see more from the Swiss defender who has so far been benched by the form of Hector Bellerin this season. He’ll be desperate to get some minutes tonight against Vorskla and will be hoping he can contribute to a win in Europe to get their campaign up and running.

A lot of fans have even called for the Swiss defender to lead the side out tonight as the captain. He hasn’t been at the club very long but it is clear that the 34-year-old is a natural leader and he wouldn’t shy away from the challenge if he was to be given the armband for the game. The club has a few injury problems at the back but the majority of the side is fit so it remains to be seen how Emery well send his side out tonight but as long as Lichtsteiner starts, the fans will be happy.
