Arsenal fans look back at Lehmann’s final appearance in last Blackpool visit

Arsenal will be travelling to Bloomfield Road to take on Blackpool in the FA Cup 3rd round this season. It may be the second time this season that they’ve faced the Tangerines, but it’s the first time since April 2011 that they’ve travelled to Bloomfield Road. The last time they did so, Jens Lehmann played his final game at the age of 41.

Back in April 2011, Lehmann was able to restrict the Tangerines to just one goal whilst Abou Diaby, Emmanuel Eboue and Robin van Persie scored to ensure the Gunners would be celebrating their trip back to London as 3-1 winners, and this weekend should be just as easy for them as that day was back in the Premier League’s 2010/11 season, especially seeing as their opponents are now a League One side.

Whilst it was a German ‘keeper playing eight years ago, the chances of a German starting between the sticks on Saturday are slim. Unai Emery will likely rotate wherever he can for this one and whilst he’ll be keen to avoid the Gunners fate from last season, where they were knocked out at this stage of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest, he’ll be hopeful of getting to the next round without the need of a replay or too many of their key players.

The fans have fond memories of Lehmann, including that Blackpool clash, and will hope they can get through this weekend without any major issues.
