Signing a goalkeeper was always going to be one of Unai Emery’s priorities this summer. The Spaniard came into the club to find an ageing Petr Cech and below a par David Ospina and the fact that he’s brought Bernd Leno is a big statement from the ex-PSG man. When Leno made his senior debut he was up against Cech, and you can read his thoughts on his new teammate here.
Now, they’re team-mates https://t.co/D5O067q9fY

In that 2011/12 season when he met Cech in the Champions League he helped his side to a win over The Blues at home, despite losing at Stamford Bridge, and now it looks like he’ll be able to learn off his opponent from all those years ago now they’ve been put together as teammates at Arsenal. However, a lot has changed since they met seven years ago and it’s the 26-year-old Leno will be wearing the number one jersey it seems.
The German ‘keeper was unlucky to be left out of the German squad for the World Cup, however, the extra holiday will have done him good and he didn’t miss much with the national team anyway, as Die Mannschaft dropped out of the World Cup at the group stages following some dire displays. Fortunately, he’ll have the chance to get back into the squad over the next two years as he looks to shoot Arsenal back into title contention under new boss Emery.
