Arsenal fans are still hurting over their Wednesday night loss to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. The Gunners bailed out to the Lilywhites 2-0 in their own backyard, and after the loss, a lot of the fans were in agreement that Nacho Monreal is finished at the top level and that the Spanish full-back simply has to be sold.
Sorry if this upsets you, but Monreal is finished at this level. I’d love to contact a comp maker and show you all the number of errors he makes. He was top quality from 2014-16, but he’s done now. Lost his legs and sharpness. Scoring a few goals doesn’t change that I’m afraid.

The feeling around the 32-year-old full-back has been kicking around for a while now. Ever since Sead Kolasinac got back to fitness there just hasn’t been room for Monreal and when he has played he’s looked weak. Last season saw the defender put in some impressive displays, but overall a few goals and assists at one end won’t make up for the fact he’s lost his legs and is making mistakes at the other end.
A lot of the Gunners would be keen to see Unai Emery cut his losses and ship out Monreal, with the aim of looking at bringing in a new left-back either in January or the summer, along with a few other new faces to bolster the Gunners shaky backline. The fans have already identified that they need some new central defenders, and they’re now just keen to add a left-back whilst they’re at it.
You can read the fans’ verdict on Monreal here:
His positional play is horrendous, constantly out of position chasing the ball.

He's not finished he should just be a back up option

It's not that he is finished at that level, it's that we need someone better.

Don’t think constant injuries and stop start in the team helps! Maybe if he got a real run of games under his belt…..

Wonder if he’d actually be best served permanently moving to CB?

The Gunners are all in agreement that they’d be better off with Monreal, even if the Spaniard has been a great servant to the club over the years.
