Arsenal fans on Twitter keen to Xhaka benched at Stamford Bridge

Arsenal fans have been moaning about Granit Xhaka for a long time. The Swiss international signed for the club back in 2016 from Borussia Monchengladbach and he’s been an interesting one. The 25-year-old has shown time and time again that he can be a liability in Arsenal’s midfield and the fans are calling for him to be benched at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Xhaka has made a lot of mistakes in his Arsenal days, despite having only been at the club for two years. A lot of fans were of the belief that when Arsene Wenger left the club the midfielder’s performances would improve, as with a better coach to help him defensively they thought he may be able to kick on as a player. Whilst Emery has only taken charge of one game, we’re yet to see that improvement, although it will definitely take time.

The main issue that the fans have with their Swiss midfielder is his complete lack of defensive awareness. The fans have had enough of seeing Xhaka fail to track his man, leaving the defence vulnerable and would much rather see someone in that role who knows what they’re doing and is just as good going backwards as he is going forwards. It’s true that Xhaka has the ability to win a game with a 30-yard strike but he can just as easily throw a game away with his lack of discipline and defensive frailties.

You can read the Gunners’ calls for him to be dropped here:

The fans are pretty unanimous in their view to drop Xhaka and will be hoping that the Swiss midfielder is only on the bench come Saturday evening’s game.
