When it comes to Granit Xhaka, the Swiss midfielder is usually taking plenty of abuse from the Gunners before stepping up and scoring a stunning goal to shut them up. That’s exactly what’s happened here, as the Gunners’ usual scapegoat rocketed in a sublime free-kick against Palace to the delight of the supporters.

Xhaka’s goal against Crystal Palace was very different to his one against Newcastle a few weeks back. Against The Geordies, Xhaka used a more careful approach, bending the ball over the wall and past the goalkeeper. Today, though, was nothing like that as he blasted a thunderbolt into the corner from a ridiculous angle, giving Wayne Hennessey absolutely no chance even when the Welshman did get a hand to it.
In the end, his freekick wasn’t one that helped his side to victory as they conceded a penalty with just under ten minutes to go that saw Arsenal draw 2-2. The only thing that Arsenal fans want from Xhaka is to see more consistency, and whilst his ability to break the net with a thumping free-kick is appreciated, if he could be more consistent defensively then the fans would be able to get behind him more. For now, though, they’re just keen to watch his stunning strike back on repeat.

The Gunners loved Xhaka’s brilliant party piece and will be keen to see him do it more often in the coming weeks.
