Arsenal fans on Twitter weren’t happy when Emery subbed Iwobi

Unai Emery has shown time and time again that he’s not afraid to make changes if needed and yesterday when they were 1-0 down against Wolves at the break it was clear that something had to change. The Spaniard opted to bring on Matteo Guendouzi, but it was the fact that he brought off Alex Iwobi that irritated the supporters.

For a lot of the season so far, Iwobi has proved to be a difference maker for The Gunners, The Nigerian winger has shown versatility to slot into a role as both a winger and an attacking midfielder with great effect. The fans have been getting behind the young midfielder and his form has improved ten-fold since last season, which made his half-time bow yesterday seem even more strange.

Most of the Arsenal fans watching on would rather have seen someone like Granit Xhaka get the boot at half-time, although in the end, Emery’s changes proved effective as it was another of his changes, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, that grabbed the club’s late equaliser. Iwobi now faces some time away from the club as he competes for Nigeria against South Africa and Uganda before returning to Arsenal to travel to Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The Gunners were all shocked to see Iwobi hooked and will be hoping he can get a full 90 minutes against Bournemouth in two weeks.
