Many Arsenal fans have responded on Twitter to quotes from Unai Emery which reveal that the club tried to sign Fabinho in the summer that they bought Lucas Torreira.
Is Unai Emery the right man for Arsenal?
The manager revealed that Fabinho was a top target for the club, saying that “his name was on the table” to join the club when he first arrived, but he opted to sign for Liverpool instead.
Emery went on to mention how Fabinho barely played within the first six months due to adaptation and said that Arsenal fans should expect the same with Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe.
Many Arsenal fans were miffed from the head coach’s comments, suggesting that it’s hardly what Lucas Torreira would want to hear when going through a bad bit of form.
The 23-year-old Uruguayan hasn’t been having the best of times this season at the Emirates. From the nine league games that have been played, he has only started two and been subbed on in five. According to WhoScored, his average rating from his performances is the 16th highest within the entire squad, with him only getting a score of 6.52/10.
Here are some of the responses from fans below, who weren’t exactly best pleased with the story.
Pepe is soon going to be playing DM then, with Torreira right wing.

Good management. Openly admitting a player seemingly low on confidence wasn’t his first choice

The nerve of this man. Torreira played phenomenally as our DM. He is driving Lucas out along with Özil and wants to give our loanee more time to adapt?? Get this man out of our club!

Exactly what Arsenal needed. Such a shame it didn't happen. Would be a completely different team with a Fabinho

You cannot be successful as a manager if you continue throwing your players under the bus.

This is ludicrous and ridiculous.
Publicly downplaying Torreira is one thing, inferring that he wasn't even "good enough" for you even when he's our best DM is another thing.
Just keep punching at their confidence!
