Arsenal: Fans rejoice as midfielder edges closer to North London exit

Arsenal fans were rejoicing after it emerged that Mohamed Elneny was close to securing a season-long loan deal to Turkish side Besiktas (via Sky Sports).

The Egyptian has yet to feature for Arsenal this season, and was called out by manager Unai Emery last week, who said it would be better if he found ‘another challenge’.

Elneny was on the fringes of Emery’s team last season, making just 17 appearances in all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

The Egypt international joined Arsenal from Swiss side FC Basel back in January 2016 for a fee believed to be £5m.

The 27-year-old has made just 89 appearances in those three-and-a-half years as he’s largely been used in a substitute. Elneny was part of the Arsenal side to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final in 2017.

Fans seem pleased at the news that the midfielder could be set to move on from North London, and took to Twitter to react.

Here is a selection of tweets from Gooners after the emergence of the news:
