Arsenal fans relieved to have missed out on Arteta

As Pep Guardiola is busy serving a touchline ban, Mikel Arteta got his first taste of being the number one man in the dugout last night when The Citizens hosted Lyon. The Spaniard who retired as a player at The Emirates was in the running to take over from Arsene Weger before Unai Emery was appointed and The Gunners are delighted that the club decided against Arteta.

The Spanish coach is still taking baby steps into management and he’ll be keen to put the loss to Lyon behind him. At the end of the day, the team was not his and Guardiola would have been working to prepare his side for the game. Although as far as The Gunners are concerned, Arteta was in the dugout so he can shoulder the blame for Manchester City’s fourth straight defeat in the Champions League.

Whilst Arteta was busy getting outdone by Lyon at The Etihad, Unai Emery will have been looking ahead to his game tonight against Vorskla in the Europa League. The key thing for Unai Emery this season will be getting back to the Champions League and if he can do that the fans will be in no doubt whatsoever that the club opted to bring the right man in to replace Arsene Wenger.

Whilst a lot of fans called for Arteta to be their gaffer over the summer, the Arsenal fans seem pleased to have missed out on the Spaniard after his managerial debut defeat.
