Arsenal fans slate Troy Deeney on Twitter as Welbeck receives England call up

Gareth Southgate announced his 25-man England squad for the upcoming fixtures against Spain and Croatia in the UEFA Nations League yesterday and once again, Danny Welbeck was included. Arsenal fans on Twitter have been both congratulating their striker and slating Troy Deeney after the news broke, as Deeney has previously riled up The Gunners with his comments about the club.

The ‘rivalry’ of sorts between Troy Deeney and Arsenal fans came after Watford overcame The Gunners at Vicarage Road in the 2017/18 season. Watford came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 on that day and after the game, Deeney added insult to injury when he accused Arsenal of ‘lacking cojones’ and failing to match his sides’ physicality as to why they lost the game, with Arsenal fans always looking to take digs at Deeny since then.

Then, just a few weeks ago whilst appearing on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Troy Deeney was talking about the England set-up under Gareth Southgate and questioned what the criteria was to be called up. The 30-year-old claimed that what he would bring to the squad both on and off the pitch would make him suitable for selection and whilst he emphasised his respect for Southgate, the Watford man wasn’t quiet about the fact that he’s keen to remain in the picture and wants his name to be circulated around England selection.

The Gunners are will be loving seeing Deeney miss out as Welbeck gets called up for England and will hope their man can continue to hold down his place in Southgate’s squad.
