Arsenal fans are often blinded by their bias towards a popular player of figure at the club, and it seems that has struck again. Last night, Alexandre Lacazette dropped a horrendous performance, missing a golden chance to score and receiving a late red card for an elbow, yet the Gunners are quick to brush it off and forgive the Frenchman.
Letting the team down like that is the worst feeling..
I should have stayed calm but it’s not always easy.. Sorry
There are still 90 minutes to play and I believe that my teammates will make it to the next round.. #COYG #Laca

Had it been Alex Iwobi or Henrikh Mkhitaryan who had missed Lacazette’s chance and then got sent off late in the game there would have been riots. The fans would be tearing into them on Twitter and claiming they’re not fit to wear the shirt. However, as it was Lacazette who let them down they’ve been very quick to forgive their goal-getter and move onto the next game.
That next game is against BATE Borisov again as they don’t play this weekend and they’ll have the task of turning around a 1-0 deficit back at The Emirates. The Gunners will still be firm favourotes for this one, although they’ll be going into the game without their French talisman, meaning that Unai Emery will likely have to call upon Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to lead the line and get them through.
You can read the Gunners’ responses to Lacazette’s red card here:
Credit to you for publicly apologizing. Tonight just wasn’t your night. The lack of creativity forced you to drop deep & that’s not your game. You were visibly frustrated, as were the fans. We know you’ll learn from it and come back stronger. Keep your head up.

One of the main positive charecters in this season full of ups and downs. Learn from the mistake and look forward. 90 minutes still to go. Onwards

Not your fault that Emery doesnt play Ozil and field a defensive minded team. Dont give up mate.

You’re one of the only players that fight for the badge, keep your head up and learn from your mistakes

The Gunners have been quick to give Lacazette a free pass for his actions and will just be hoping he doesn’t let them down like this again in the future.
