Arsenal fans take to Twitter with delight over goalkeeping update

Arsenal fans have been panicking for a long time ahead of their summer transfer window. It’s well known that the Gunners have no little in the way of transfer funds, so Unai Emery will have to cut corners. One of those corners that will be cut is in the goalkeeping department, as The Sun reports they won’t be replacing the retiring Petr Cech.
Arsenal won’t sign a new keeper in the summer to replace Petr Cech so that they can use funds to strengthen other key areas. Instead, the club will recall Emiliano Martinez from his loan with Reading. The club has been monitoring his progress constantly. [Sun]

Whilst to some fans that may be worrying, losing your second choice goalkeeper isn’t always the worst thing in the world. Bernd Leno is a top goalkeeper and he’s no doubt one of the best that The Emirates has seen, however, he’s never going to play every game and having a second choice is key to every top side, and for Unai Emery’s Arsenal, that second choice is set to be Emiliano Martinez.
The Argentine is decent enough back-up and he will no doubt be able to step up and perform when called upon in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. If Leno is to be injured at all then things will be turned on their heads as the inexperienced Martinez would be dropped into both Premier League and Europa League action. Whether or not he can hack it is another matter, even if the Gunners are all delighted with the news that they’ll be saving on a new goalkeeper.

Don’t mind that at all, about time we gave a real chance to a academy goalkeeper, we haven’t had one since Szczesny and look at him now
