Arsenal fans took to Twitter to slam Guendouzi for costing them a clean sheet

Arsenal are a club that seem to have some kind of allergy to clean sheets. The Gunners have managed just two clean sheets in their last 12 games and last night was not one of them. They ran out comfortable 5-1 winners, yet the goal they shipped was certainly avoidable, with Matteo Guendouzi shouldering the blame for Lys Mousset’s strike.

There were a few hopeful shouts for a foul on the young French midfielder when he was caught in possession, yet the fans can’t have too many complaints over the goals they shipped in their 5-1 win, and were left questioning Guendouzi for his part in it, as he lost out cheaply in a dangerous area of the pitch. So often this season the youngster has come in for praise, but last night his naivety shone through.

The Frenchman is still just 19-years-old and has a lot to learn, despite the fact the Gunners seem to think he’s already the next big thing. If they are to get anything out of Saturday’s trip to Wembley in the 3rd and final North London derby of the season then Unai Emery will need to be smart and go with his strongest midfield pairing of Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira, dropping Guendouzi and going at Spurs without his weak touch in the middle of the park.

The Gunners were far from happy to have lost yet another clean sheet, and they were quick to get on Guendouzi’s back for the shoddy goal.
