Many Arsenal fans have gotten behind the idea of snapping up John McGinn after the Scotsman smashed home a first-half hat-trick in an international match.
Should Arsenal have signed Zaha over Pepe?
McGinn, 24, was subjected to much interest in the summer, though that looked to be mainly from Manchester United. However, the Red Devils were allegedly put off the player due to his huge £50m price tag (talkSPORT).
The Scot joined Aston Villa at the start of last season, signing for just a nominal £2.75m fee.
The midfielder – valued at just £5.85m at Villa despite having a contract which expires in 2024 – has been hugely impressive in the Premier League so far this season, scoring three times and assisting once for the club and playing every minute of their eight matches (Transfermarkt).
On WhoScored, the midfielder leads the average ratings by quite some distance. In his eight matches, the website have given him four Man of the Match awards, as well as an average rating of 7.59/10 – the seventh highest in the whole division and the highest for a player to not play for Liverpool or Manchester City.
His stock rose once more on the weekend as he hit home a first-half hat-trick at Hampden as Scotland beat San Marino 6-0.
Below are some tweets from Arsenal fans who have their eye on the Scottish midfielder…

Ideally we get one of Havertz, Aouar, Maddison. Cheaper options might be McGinn/Grealish.
CB – I have no clue. Upamecano seems to be the one for the club. I like Declan Rice.
