So Arsenal fans are finally looking downcast here in the Football Transfer Tavern after Metro all but confirmed that the Gunners were about to lose Bacary Sagna.
The long serving defender is of course out of contract and despite Arsene Wenger’s efforts to get the player to stay, it seems that will not come to pass.
Manchester City are the club who are leading the chase for the French star and it seems that they are closing in on a switch for the player.
Sagna was asked about his future and he seemed not too pleased to have to once again go over it, claiming to L’Equipe: “It’s no longer a secret, I will leave Arsenal for sure.
“They tried to make an effort, but the discussions have not gone in the direction I wished it.”
He also noted that his time spent at Arsenal contained no regrets and added: “It was an honour to grow in the shirt.
“Arsenal is a club that brought me a lot, both as a person and as a sportsman.
“Even though we had been criticised for quite some time due to the lack of trophies, I spent some magical moments. If I had to do, I’d do it again.
‘There are a lot of calls, a lot of speculation. Frankly, it gives headaches. I’ll sort it all out that before the start of the World Cup.”
Arsenal fans. Just who can replace Sagna this summer? Serge Aurier, Micah Richards…Carl Jenkinson? Let us know your thoughts below.
