Only time will tell regarding Mesut Ozil’s future at Arsenal.
It is something that has been discussed at length previously in the media and despite returning for pre-season, The Sun continues to claim he could be someone Unai Emery looks to offload this summer to balance the books and raise funds.
And, according to a report in Turkey, it would seem Arsenal could have a potential suitor for their £350,000-a-week star (Spotrac).
Fanatik are leading with a story suggesting that Fenerbahce are prepared to offer Ozil a way out of the Premier League outfit this summer and are thought to be growing in confidence regarding an ambitious deal for the 30-year-old.
Club president Ali Koc is said to be very keen on signing Ozil and is said to be in talks with major sponsors about financing a move, however, how that would work remains to be seen.
It is claimed the Super Lig outfit would be willing to loan the playmaker (without an option to purchase) and pay Arsenal up to €6million (£5.3m) of his €15m (£13.4m) wages, with the sponsors paying the remaining €9m (£8m).
The Turkish outfit’s plan to swoop for the Arsenal playmaker appears to be one that is rather ambitious.
Fenerbahce have fallen foul of the Financial Fair Play regulations and it would be difficult to see them receive the type of financial backing to make a deal as big as obtaining Ozil happen – Koc has asked fans to help with via donations as recently as March (Turkish Football News); potentially making a move all the more ambitious.
Ozil certainly has not proved he is worth the £350k-per-week contract he signed in February 2018, as his form has taken an incredible dip and he has since had his attitude questioned publicly, with former manager George Graham going on record (Love Sport Radio via Goal).
According to Transfermarkt, the German managed to record just two Premier League assists in the final stages of the 2018/19 campaign, whilst he only provided two more in Emery’s first season in charge at the Emirates Stadium.
