Riyad Mahrez future has been a big talking point here at the Football Transfer Tavern this summer, and just as the Leicester City fans by the bar were beginning to come around to the idea of him staying this summer; he has thrown a curveball right towards them.
Mahrez has been linked with a move away from Leicester all summer long, with a host of Premier League clubs reportedly interested in the attacking midfielder.
Arsenal in particular have been touted with a move, with rumours on the topic ramping up over the last few weeks as Arsene Wenger begins his yearly search for a last minute big-money purchase.
It was recently revealed that Mahrez was not for sale and that Leicester would do all they could to keep him at the club, and that – for many of the Leicester fans here in the tavern, was enough to convince them that their star player would remain with The Foxes for at least another season.
However, in a recent interview with French publication France Football, Mahrez has thrown his future into doubt after revealing that he WOULD leave Leicester if an offer from the right team came in.
In reference to which club’s he would leave Leicester for, Mahrez was quoted as saying that “there are two or three clubs in the world, that if they come for me, it definitely… (would make me) think”, before adding that he wants to stay in the Premier League for “as long as possible”
Whilst he didn’t specify which three clubs he would leave for, it has left everyone in the Football Transfer Tavern to speculate who it might be. Our Landlord even put out a bold suggestion that Arsenal could be one of them…
What do you think Arsenal fans? Do you reckon you might be in with a shout – or is he turning his head towards Spain instead?
