Arsenal given limited funds for summer transfer activity

wenger531Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t best pleased with what they have heard today, with many storming out of the bar in frustration after reading some concerning reports.

The Daily Mail says that despite Arsenal boasting cash reserves of £135m, Arsene Wenger will be handed just £70m to spend on the transfer front this summer.

Arsenal looked on course for their first Premier League title in 12 years a month ago but a major decline in form has seen them slip to third, five points behind Leicester City, and the Gunners are in danger of slipping out of the Champions League spots.

With the Gunners signing just three players in the last three transfer windows, including just Petr Cech last summer, Arsenal fans were hopeful of more activity come the end of the season- particularly as Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United will all be going for broke.

However, instead Wenger will have just £70m to play with this summer and that’s not a large amount in the modern transfer market. The long-serving Frenchman wants a new centre-back and holding midfielder, which that figure could secure, but any further additions would be difficult to come by.

Our landlord is baffled by these reports and has angrily stated this is the one year where Arsenal simply cannot afford to pinch the pennies, as their rivals will surpass them comfortably if they do.
