Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are a nervous bunch today as they gear up for a crunch Champions League tie with Barcelona tomorrow but they’ve distracted themselves today with a game of pool and a discussion about an exciting transfer link.
Spanish outlet Fichajes state that Arsenal are ready to go all-out for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain this summer, a forward that the Gunners have held long-term interest in.
Arsene Wenger’s side were heavily linked with the forward back in 2013 when he left Real Madrid, though he subsequently moved to Naples and has impressed in Italian football. However, he now seems set for a step-up to a bigger side.
The Argentine forward is highly-rated by his current employers, who last summer valued him at an astonishing £70.5m, and whilst Arsenal are unlikely to have to pay that much a fee for the forward could potentially see them break their own transfer record.
Arsenal seem happy to do exactly that though in their quest for a world-class striker and our landlord feels this is the sort of deal that the Gunners simply have to complete.
Gooners, would Higuain be a significant upgrade to your squad? Let us know in the comments below!
