Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been incredibly frustrated by their poor form, with the latest set-back being a drab draw with Sunderland yesterday, but it seems the Gunners are pushing ahead with transfer plans.
TransferMarketWeb states Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has guaranteed Serie A star Sime Vrsaljko a spot in the starting eleven if he moves to north London, in an attempt to fend-off his rivals in the market.
The 24-year-old Sassuolo full-back is rated as one of the best defenders within Italian football but Arsenal’s interest will come as a surprise to many, as Vrsaljko is predominantly a right-back.
Arsenal do need support for PFA Team of the Year nominee Hector Bellerin in that area but a replacement isn’t the best move, considering the Spaniard’s form this season, and there’s a similar problem on the other flank.
Croatian international Vrsaljko can also play on the left-side, which is currently occupied by Nacho Monreal, but Arsenal will need their ranks bolstering here if Kieran Gibbs leaves north London this summer.
In any case, Arsenal face rival interest from Juventus, Napoli, Roma, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain for the quality defender, which means the saga is not an easy one to predict.
