We can always rely on the Daily Express for a good story here in the Football Transfer Tavern and today is no different with the claim that Arsenal have received something of a transfer boost surrounding top target Julian Draxler of Schalke.
It had been claimed last week that the German international was considering a move away from Schalke and now it seems that one of the potential destinations is firmly off the radar. Borussia Dortmund are no longer in the running for the midfielder after he essentially closed the door on a move leaving it to Arsenal and Bayern Munich to fight it out for his services.
Of course going toe to toe with Bayern Munich is no easy feat, just ask Barcelona, but Arsenal clearly feel they have enough to land the highly rated player as they look ahead to the summer and a potential spending spree that could see Wenger splash around £70 million. The player himself is worth around £15 million and both Wenger and incoming Bayern manager Pep Guardiola are happy to spend that much on his talents.
The player himself noted that what ever happens he will not be moving to Dortmund, claiming: “I can promise to all that I will not play for Dortmund.”
Does his Dortmund snub really open the door to Arsenal? Rate this rumour below.
