Some good news for Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern coming from the Express today, as highly-rated defender Hector Bellerin says he wants to stay at Arsenal and commit his future to the club.
After a bad weekend which saw them lose to London rivals Chelsea in a heated game at Stamford Bridge, this comes as music to the ears of Gunners fans who have been very quiet here in the Tavern since the defeat.
The Spanish right-back joined Arsenal in 2011 from Barcelona’s famed academy when he was 16 and after breaking into the first team last season, has now established himself as Arsenal’s first choice right-back over Mathieu Debuchy after a series of excellent performances for the Emirates outfit.
He has been heavily linked with a move back to Barcelona since his meteoric rise, with many punters here in the Tavern likening his situation to that of Cesc Fabregas, who eventually re-joined his boyhood club after years of success at a young age at Arsenal.
However, Bellerin looks set to take a different path. The defender says he is very happy with his decision to leave Barcelona and is quoted by Metro as saying: “I’ve always said the reason I came to Arsenal is because I want to stay here and I am not thinking about going anywhere else.” Bellerin could sign a new contract in the coming weeks.
