Arsenal handed significant blow as preparations begin for Huddersfield clash

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty pleased today. The Gunners enjoyed a resolute win against Burnley over the weekend, with the three points putting the Gunners back into the top four at the expense of their North London rivals Tottenham.

However, whilst there was a celebration in the Transfer Tavern last night, the Gunners’ faithful have been brought back down to earth with a crushing thud by a recent post on the official Arsenal Instagram page. Citing a quote from Arsene Wenger, the post has served as an update on the fitness status of Mesut Ozil, with the manager confirming that the German will NOT be available to face Huddersfield this week as he continues his recovery.

Though Arsenal picked up an important win against Burnley, it was clear that their performance lacked flair, and Mesut Ozil’s unavailability¬†was the likely cause of that. He’s one of the most creative players in the Premier League, and it’s disappointing for the Arsenal faithful that he won’t be featuring this week.

The blow has come at a bad time for him, as he was finally regaining his form after a torrid start to the season. Now, though, there is a concern in the pub that he could be back to square one.

Landlord’s Verdict

On his day, Mesut Ozil is unplayable. Unfortunately for him, though, his day simply hasn’t come often enough this term. The German’s form this season has been poor this season, but in recent weeks he has been a lot better.

It’s a huge blow, then, that his progress had to be hampered at this point. If he returns and doesn’t continue to impress, the prospect of a big-money move away, or indeed a new contract at the Emirates, looks bleak.
