The Football Transfer Tavern is packed today as punters enjoy the bank holiday weekend with a dose of football and transfer speculation.
One of those taking in today’s matches is Mail Online journalist Tom Bellwood who has some interesting news for the Arsenal supporters sat near the bar.
Bellwood reports that Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has started negotiations over a new contract after it was revealed that Manchester United and Chelsea wanted to sign the French international.
The Gunners are preparing to give the 28-year-old a massive pay-rise taking him level with the top earners at the club.
Koscielny has been one of the Gunners’ star performers this term and his partnership with Per Mertesacker is widely recognised in the tavern as one of the best in the Premier League.
Already the Gunners have been ensuring that their best players are signed up with Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson and Aaron Ramsey all penning new deals while goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny also agreed a new contract during the season.
Koscielny is next in the line as Arsenal try to warn off reported interest from Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge.
Is Wenger right to get the classy defender signed up? Could you see him leaving the Emirates Stadium in the near future? Let us know your thoughts below.
