Thursday night’s match against Rennes could be one of Unai Emery’s most important in charge of Arsenal so far as their Europa League ambitions hang on by a thread. Although the Gunners are still in the battle for the top four, winning the European tournament is something the Spaniard has accomplished numerous times and it may be their easiest method to securing Champions League football next season.
However, Ismaila Sarr played a huge role for the French outfit and it appears his performance on the night did not go unnoticed by the Premier League outfit.
What’s the News?
According to Goal in France, Arsenal held informal talks with the Ligue One outfit about a possible transfer for their Senegal international star.
The 21-year-old was extremely impressive on the night and proved to be more than a handful for the English club’s defence as he managed to bag himself Rennes’ third goal and effectively put one foot into the next round.
Arsenal are thought to have been long-term admirers of Sarr and his display against them last week will have only further enhanced their liking towards him.
The 21-year-old has been in sensational form for the Ligue One outfit this season following an impressive World Cup campaign with Senegal, having scored ten goals and provided 11 assists in his 38 appearances across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).
And, those figures could make him an ideal player to fit in the system that Emery employs at the Emirates Stadium.
Sarr is extremely quick and can play on either wing or even as a forward, providing the Spaniard with even more attacking threat and would appear to fill an issue that the club currently has regarding wide men.
Valued at £24.3million (Transfermarkt), can make a number of runs that allows his team-mates to have additional options when they look to play the ball forward, whilst he still has plenty of time to develop considering his age.
The 21-year-old is not quite the finished article, however, Emery could be the perfect manager to take him to the next level, whilst playing in a side like Arsenal could also help to bring the best out of him, which will only further help the club as well.
