There is more than a little bit of drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it has been claimed by Metro that Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov sensationally wants the club to buy Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney this summer.
The forward has been linked with a move away from current club Manchester United and the persistent links to Arsenal do not seem to be going away.
First Arsene Wenger claimed that he would be stupid to turn the player down and now co owner Usmanov claimed that: “Arsene knows better than me what should be done.
“But Rooney is a great player and joining would be good for Arsenal. It would be great for Rooney, too.”
Luckily for Manchester United fans and David Moyes, Usmanov is of course not on the board at the Emirates Stadium yet and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners would pursue what could arguably be the signing of the summer. The North Londoners are of course closing in on the capture of Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain and given the astonishing record of the Argentine – averaging a goal every 112 minutes for Real Madrid since his transfer from River Plate, it is little wonder the buzz of excitement at the club is growing with every passing day.
